Pregnancy & Postpartum
Notes on carrying a bump, dressing through it, and finding my way back to feeling like myself afterwards.
Body After Baby
In April 2014 I shared a six-month post-baby body update, talking honestly about how my body had changed since having little L and what that process looked and felt like week to week.
Those updates sit alongside my wider health posts, where I've written more about the ups and downs of getting back into a routine after becoming a mum.
Maternity Style
Dressing through pregnancy meant rethinking my usual tailored, cinched-waist approach. I leaned on textured layers and pieces that could flex with a changing shape, then carried a few of those same habits into my regular outfit posts once the bump was gone.
Brands like Kookai, Witchery, and Forever New turned up often, mixed with staples from Levi and ALDO as I figured out what still felt like "me."
Finding My Way Back
Postpartum, I worked with nutritionist Sheena Jayne of Sheena Jayne Fitness on getting my strength and energy back, alongside home workouts fitted around caring for little L.
I was also following a low histamine diet on a naturopath's advice, dealing with eczema, bloating, and IBS symptoms that flared after the birth — a personal experiment rather than a prescription for anyone else.

Pregnancy brings a shift in how you relate to your own body, and that transition doesn't end once the baby arrives. The months after birth carry their own quiet adjustments, as strength returns slowly and routines reshape themselves around a new little person. Many women find themselves navigating a space between celebrating what their body accomplished and feeling unfamiliar in their own skin. It helps to approach this season with patience, letting go of pressure to bounce back quickly. Small daily habits, like nourishing meals and gentle movement, can support recovery without demanding perfection. The process is deeply personal, and each woman's timeline looks different from the next.
Maternity style is about comfort without sacrificing the sense of self that clothing can provide. As your shape changes, familiar pieces may no longer fit the way they used to, and that can feel disorienting. The key is finding items that accommodate growth while still reflecting your personal taste. Soft knits, stretchy waistbands, and adjustable details become unexpected allies during pregnancy. After the baby arrives, your wardrobe may need another rethink, as your body continues to settle into its new normal. Building a small collection of versatile pieces that work across both seasons can ease the transition and keep getting dressed feeling like a choice rather than a chore.
Postpartum wellness extends far beyond the physical, touching on emotional health, sleep, and the mental load of caring for a newborn. It is easy to forget that recovery takes time and that rest is not a luxury but a necessity. Many new mothers feel pressure to resume their pre-pregnancy routines quickly, yet the body and mind benefit from a gentler approach. Simple practices like preparing nourishing snacks, staying hydrated, and stepping outside for fresh air can ground you during chaotic days. Leaning on trusted support systems, whether family, friends, or online communities, makes the journey lighter. Giving yourself grace matters most of all.
