Health & Wellness

Notes on diet changes, post-baby fitness, and the small habits that have shaped how I eat and move day to day.

Low Histamine Diet Journey

On a naturopath's recommendation I followed a low histamine diet to help manage eczema, bloating, and IBS symptoms. In July 2014 I documented this journey alongside outfit details from that week, including pieces from Kookai, Witchery, and ALDO. It was a personal experiment rather than a prescribed program, and the changes I made reflected what worked for my own body at the time.

Post-Baby Body Updates

In April 2014 I shared a six-month post-baby body update. Around that time I was breastfeeding twice a day and my son's first birthday was approaching. To support post-baby weight loss I worked with nutritionist Sheena Jayne of Sheena Jayne Fitness, fitting changes around a busy new-mum routine.

Navigating health during motherhood often means listening to your body in new and deeper ways. Many women find that small, intentional shifts in their daily routines can bring surprising relief from ongoing discomfort. Whether it's adjusting what goes into your morning bowl of oats or swapping out certain snacks for gentler alternatives, these choices become acts of self-care. The journey is rarely linear, but paying attention to how different foods affect your energy, digestion, and skin can be empowering. What works for one person may not work for another, and that's perfectly okay. The key is staying curious and compassionate with yourself as you learn what helps you feel your best.

A clean, whole-foods approach to eating doesn't have to mean deprivation or bland meals. Fresh vegetables, quality protein sources like eggs and fish, and natural sweeteners such as stevia can form the foundation of nourishing breakfasts, lunches, and dinners. Adding chia seeds, flaxseed, or almond milk to smoothies and oatmeal boosts nutrition without complicating your routine. Seasonal produce like pumpkin in winter or fresh salads in warmer months keeps meals interesting and aligned with what your body craves. The goal is not perfection but consistency, building habits that support your energy levels and overall wellbeing over the long term.

Post-pregnancy health is a deeply personal journey that unfolds at its own pace. Many mothers discover that gentle movement, adequate hydration, and nutrient-dense meals help restore strength and balance after childbirth. Breastfeeding adds another layer of nutritional demand, making it especially important to prioritize foods that sustain both mother and baby. Simple practices like preparing overnight oats, keeping cut vegetables in the fridge, and choosing natural snacks over processed options can make a meaningful difference. Patience is essential, as the body needs time to heal and adjust. Celebrating small victories along the way helps maintain motivation and a positive outlook.

Wellness extends beyond what you eat to encompass how you move, rest, and care for your mental health. A balanced lifestyle might include morning walks in nature, restorative spa days, or regular exercise at a local gym. Finding what brings you joy and calm is just as important as any dietary protocol. Many women find that documenting their experiences through journaling or photography helps them stay connected to their goals and track their progress. Whether you're navigating seasonal changes, travel, or the demands of a growing family, creating space for self-reflection allows you to adjust your routines with grace and intention.

Home Gym Workouts

Fitness updates included home gym sessions worked into daily life rather than scheduled classes — a practical way to stay active between feeds, outfit shoots, and the usual demands of caring for a young baby.

Clean Eating, Simply

Alongside the diet changes, I kept meals simple: quinoa porridge for breakfast, a choc protein mug cake as an easy treat, and other clean-eating staples that fit around a low histamine approach. These recipes doubled as quick options on busy days.
